Privacy

This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Nothing is stored in the browser beyond what the browser caches to display the pages.

The web server records standard request logs — address requested, time, referring page, browser identification and IP address — for operating and securing the site. These are retained for a limited period and are not combined with anything else or shared.

Pages carry links to third-party sites, including one advertising placement. Following any of them is a request to that operator, whose own handling of data applies from that point and is outside this site's control.

Email sent to the address on the contact page is kept only as long as needed to deal with the message.

Imprint

Codingfish is an independent editorial reference on self-hosted community and marketplace software. It sells nothing and takes no payment for inclusion in the catalogue.

Accuracy

Entries describe third-party software that changes without notice. Every effort is made to keep licences, runtimes and hosting models correct, and each entry links to the project itself so the current position can be checked at the source. Corrections are welcome.

Three classes of figure on this site are read rather than written, and they carry a different kind of uncertainty from the prose around them. Activity dates are the last commit to a project's public repository. Release tags, where a project publishes them, come from the same place. Importer counts are the script files present in the Discourse repository. All three are read when the page is built, which means they are current as of that build and not as of the moment you are reading — and if a source was unreachable during a build, the previously read value is shown rather than a blank.

Five of the catalogued platforms have no public repository, so no activity figure is shown for them at all. That absence is deliberate: an empty cell is an honest statement that nothing was measured, whereas a guess would not be. It should not be read as evidence that a project is unmaintained.

Third-party links and trade marks

Every catalogued platform is linked to its own website so that any claim made here can be checked against the source. Those sites are outside this site's control, and no responsibility is accepted for their content, their availability or their own privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement, and no entry in the catalogue is paid for or sponsored.

Product names, logos and trade marks referred to on this site belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only. Their use here does not imply any affiliation with, or endorsement by, the projects or companies concerned.

Copyright

The text, the comparison tables and the figures on this site are original work. The underlying facts — licences, version numbers, commit dates — are not owned by anyone and are free to verify at their source, which is why each entry links to it. Quoting a sentence with a link back is fine; republishing a page wholesale is not.

Questions people actually ask

What does this site collect?

Nothing beyond what a web server records to answer a request. There is no analytics script, no tag manager, no advertising pixel and no third-party font loaded from another host. Nothing on these pages is fetched from a domain other than this one except where a link is clearly labelled as leading somewhere else.

Are cookies used?

No cookie is set by this site. Some browser storage may be used to remember a filter or a collapsed section on the machine it was set on; it never leaves that browser and it is not read by anyone.

Who is responsible for the content?

The operator named in the imprint above. Corrections to a catalogue entry are the fastest way to fix something that is wrong, and the contact page explains what makes one easy to act on.

Are the outbound links endorsements?

No. Every catalogued platform is linked to its own site so a reader can verify what is written here against the source. Inclusion in the catalogue is decided by the membership rule and nothing else — no entry is paid for.
